Meditation is an essential, but simple way of putting ourselves back in touch with our spiritual connection. For those of you that have never meditated before, here is a guide for how to begin.
- Choose a relaxing song—without words—which you can play for several minutes. Ten to fifteen is a perfect amount of time for a beginner to meditate.
- Choose a position, either sit in lotus pose (cross legged), or sit in a chair with your feet planted on the ground. For both poses, keep your posture in mind.
- Close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths. Inhale through the your nose, and exhale through your mouth. Draw your attention to your breath, and notice how calm and relaxed you begin to feel. If your mind wanders, do not judge the thought, simply recognize it and bring your thoughts back to your breathing.
- When the music has ended, slowly open your eyes, stretch and return to your activities.
