Are You Building People Up, Or Knocking Them Down?

As human beings one of our most essential needs beyond water, food and shelter, is to be loved. We are consistently in need of human connection and interaction to motivate and lift us up. We also have the profound power to make or break other people’s days with our words and actions. With this said, it should be our daily challenge to inspire, motivate and encourage others. Here are some ways in which you can do just that:

  • Treat people with kindness, or as your mother always said, “Treat people the way you would want to be treated.” People tend to have a better response and demeanor when you use kindness and understanding as your method of communication.
  • Celebrate with people. Jealously can be a key obstacle in finding happiness in other peoples achievements. Remove jealousy and find the warmth in celebrating the joys of another persons life with them.
  • Learn how to listen. Most everyone is good at talking, but there are few who have the natural ability to really and truly listen. Listening is a gift which reflects a sense of caring and selflessness.
  • Do not judge. There is often more depth to people than what is at the surface. Before you judge, get to know who they are and what the motivating factors are behind their actions.

Make your Bedroom a Sanctuary Again

The bedroom should be a relaxing place, a sanctuary for you to rejuvenate and recharge. However, the number of people complaining of sleep related issues is astounding. A major reason why we have so much difficulty sleeping, is related to bringing stress into the bedroom. Today, a bedroom is no longer a place for rest, it has also become a work room, a play room for your kids, a living room and occasionally a storage facility. So how do we go about returning a bedroom into a sanctuary? Here are some helpful tips to keep you from counting sheep.

  1. De-clutter your bedroom. Organize papers, clothes and anything else, and remove it from your bedroom, or put it away in your closet.
  2. Create a barrier. A bedroom is for sleep, not for work and stress. Keep your laptop and other work in an office, or in another room other than your bedroom.
  3. Turn off your TV. Television stimulates the brain, it does not help you sleep.
  4. Get rid of night-lights. Night-lights, electronic lights and light flowing in from windows can keep us awake. We get our best sleep when resting in a completely dark room.
  5. Use scents to calm and relax. Before you go to sleep, spray a scent like lavender or jasmine on your pillow.
